  • 2008 Kansas Teacher of the Year Finalist
    • I was fortunate to be selected as the Augusta USD402 2008 Elementary Teacher of the Year.  I was then honored to be chosen as a 2008 Finalist for the entire State of Kansas.  As a finalist, I toured the state with six other finalists.  We were able to discuss education in Kansas schools with state legislators in Topeka, encourage pre-service college students who were working towards their education degrees at various colleges and universities, and share our “education stories” with others in the communities we visited.  It was a true honor to represent Kansas teachers!

Professional Development:

I believe that teachers must keep up-to-date with the latest trends in education.  Therefore, I have attended various professional development conferences and workshops on topics such as math, reading, science, writing, and technology.  I have also participated in book studies on education.  I am a life-long learner...and encourage my students to always be thinking and learning!

Current Position:

I began my teaching career as a special education teacher.  I taught at both Robinson and Lincoln schools in Augusta.  After 13 years, I transferred to Garfield Elementary to become a first grade teacher.  I love teaching first grade because of the children’s excitement for learning!  Every day is amazing!
